          CLEAN-UP DAY CAPE CORAL

                March 30, 2008

Hello,

Thanks for your interest in Cape Coral’s First Annual Canal Clean-Up Day!  I just want to share some more details with you and get you a copy of the flier – feel free to distribute it.  (Actually, please distribute it!)  I just emailed Connie Barron, our City spokesperson, a press release; so an initial announcement should be showing up in the media soon.

Pertinent information:

-It’s from 8-noon at the Yacht Club.  People can show up at the yacht club OR clean up their canals and bring us the trash (a few people have already told me they’re getting neighbors involved to do this).  I’ve attached a chart of the area around the yacht club and will hand this out so people have some idea of nearby canals.

-The $5 trailer parking fee will be waived for our volunteers.

-If we get a group of people with no boats, we’ll split them up between the yacht club itself, Four Freedoms, and possibly Jaycee and/or Saratoga Parks -  there’s plenty of waterfront property with litter.

-We’re working on what lunch will be… hopefully sandwiches or pizza; refreshments will be provided as well

-We’re also working on t-shirts to hand out that day.

-Potential volunteers are encouraged to call and let me know they’re interested – especially if they’re part of a group!  This is the first time we’ve held this event; I want to make sure to plan for enough food.

-Rumor has it the Mayor is planning to make an appearance.

We are looking for additional sponsors, so if you have any connections, please don’t be shy.  We’ll put sponsors on all promotional materials and on the back of the t-shirts.  Keep Lee County Beautiful, our partner in planning this, is a non-profit organization.

Also, there’s a separate Great American Cleanup event in the NW Cape on April 19th – the contact for that is David Scott, 283-9251.

Please let me know if you have any questions or suggestions.  Thanks again for your interest and for the talking-it-up you’ve already been doing – word has already spread quite a bit, and this will be an exciting event!

Kim
