About the 'Gulf Coast Backwater Paddlers'
The Gulf Coast Backwater Paddlers is a boating club made up of individuals of all ages who enjoy paddling streams, rivers and the Gulf of Mexico in predominately kayaks or canoes but other non-motorized boats or whatever floats are also enjoyed.
'Paddles' are done primarily in Ft. Myers, Matlacha, Naples, Estero, Lover's Key etc. but the Crystal and Rainbow Rivers in central Florida, Cedar Key and St. Augustine in Northern Florida as well as the Space Coast on the east coast have also been some of our favorites.
Day trips comprise the most frequent trips done, but an occasional overnight camp-out at one of the state parks certainly spices up the mix.
We are very aware of our environment and urge members to take an active part in keeping the area clean and free of litter. Whenever we paddle, if we spot a piece of trash or fishing line in the water or on the trees, pick it up and bring it back with you, the wildlife and fellow boaters will be appreciative.
A number of special public service trips are done where our main purpose is to just clean up the waterways as we paddle.
Our primary goal as a club is to get out on the water, see lots of wild life, enjoy great company and above all have a great time.
Regular monthly meetings are held on the Third Monday of each month at the Parks and Recreation Building, Rutenberg Park, Ft Myers, FL. at 7:00pm.
