MEETING MINUTES FOR GULF COAST BACKWATER PADDLERS

 

The March meeting of the Gulf Coast Backwater Paddlers started at 7pm on March 21, 2007,

at the Backwater Outfitter’s Store in Matlacha on Pine Island Road.

 

Diane LaPell opened the meeting and had the members and guests introduce themselves. 

The Members and guests introduced themselves and the meeting of March 21, 2007 began.

 

The first item presented was a discussion about a new meeting room. Diane is checking into having the monthly meetings at Matlacha Park. Negotiations are pending.

 

The matter of joining the ACA (American Canoe Association) you can research the ACA on the web at www.americancanoe.org

 

Safety issues: Importance of life jackets, have a paddle float and other equipment necessary for safe paddling.

 

New trips planned for April. On Monday April 2nd Diane LaPell and Rusty Batchelor are leading a Moonlight Paddle launching from Four Freedom Park in Cape Coral at 7:00pm and returning around 9:00 pm.  Friday April 6th Laynette Brown is leading a kayak/canoe fishing trip at Bunch Beach, Fort Myers launching at 8:00am. She has also planned a trip at Jug Creek, Bokeelia Boat Ramp on Monday April 9th launching at 9:00am.  Saturday April 21st is Koreshan State Park Earth Day Festival Starts at 8:00am until 6:30pm.  Diane and Rusty will lead a trip on Sunday April 22 on the Orange River from Manatee Park in Fort Myers launching at 9:00am return around 12:00 and will have an annual picnic. On Saturday April 28th Diane and Rusty have a trip planned with the Sail Club and Our Paddling Club at Bimini Basin at Four Freedoms Park, Cape Coral launching at 12:00pm until 4:00pm.  Check the web site information or possible changes in the schedule.

 

Review of the itinerary for the Collier Seminole Camping, Kayaking and Hiking trip on the March 23rd   this weekend with the Space Coast Paddlers from Melbourne Fl. This is going to be a fun packed weekend.

 

The web site is getting better and better. Rusty Batchelor is working hard to get our site perfected and he is moving right along. Check it out at it’s a great site.  What a great job Rusty. Thanks.
