I am not writing this as the president of the Paradise Coast Paddlers Club but rather as a concerned paddler.
March 29 is the Grand Opening of the long awaited first phase of the Paradise Coast Blueway.  The Blueway was pretty much done with no budget. There were a few county employees who did much of the work on there own time. Members of the Paradise Coast Paddlers Club volunteered time to GPS the trails. Some of PCPC's meetings were devoted entirely to the Blueway and trying to create useful maps that paddlers could actually use. The county got a grant and PCPC received a grant from the ACA & LL Bean for $1000.
My concern is that Collier County government doesn't get it. The government officials main focus is on the beaches in front of condos and hotels, etc., as it probably should be. But they need to be made aware of the low impact of eco-activities that are happening in one of the most beautiful paddling areas in the world. We need to make the commissioners and other Florida officials know that they must consider paddlers needs when development and roadway widening projects occur.
Please mark March 29 on your calendar and help your fellow paddlers. The only way I know how to impress the government officials is to have a fantastic turnout for the grand opening! We must get their attention and this is our one big opportunity!
Place: Mar/good Park 324 Pear Pl. Goodland Fl.
Time: 9:00 am ribbon Cutting @ 9:30 am
Paddles: There will be two guided tours to Sandfly immediately following the Ribbon cutting or just go on your own trips.
Come and camp in the area and come to the opening. Go on a fishing trip and come to the opening. HAVE FUN!
For more info call Collier County Parks & rec  239-252-4006

PLEASE forward this to your paddling friends and any clubs you may know.
